Printing

From Cam's Kanji Cards

I have a Brother HL-5250 model laser printer that I use for printing. I do not know if there are issues for other printers, but here is how I print the cards on 3x5 index cards. This is just how I print my cards, I am not responsible for damage to your printer or anything else if it messes you up. Make sure your printer is actually capable of printing on index cards due to size/thickness or other restrictions. If your printer cannot do manual duplex, you can try printing all odd pages, then all even pages.

1. Open up the card(s) in Adobe Reader.

2. Put some index cards in the printer tray that can accept 3x5 cards. I would imagine some printers cannot take index cards because of their small size. Make sure your printer can.

3. Set your paper to 3x5 size.

4. Set Duplex to Manual, Flip on Left Edge (unless you have a printer that can duplex on such a small sheet)

5. Set Adobe to 'Shrink to Printable Area' under Page Scaling

6. Set 'Choose paper source by PDF page size' ON. I don't know why, but this setting reduces the border size resulting in a bigger printed area on the card.

7. Set Auto-Rotate and Center to ON.

8. Start printing. When one side is done, put the cards back in the printer to do the other side. Experiment with a single card to make sure you are rotating it in the right direction. I had some trouble figuring out the right way to do it and ended up with lots of toner missing the paper entirely, resulting in black spots on the next hundred prints or so.
